Hey y’all, it’s Corinne here. Welcome back to the podcast. Now I usually
host this all by myself, but today I’m doing something a little
different. I am handing the mic over to one of my incredible coaches.
You already know Coach Kathy from the earlier episodes. She’s still with
us, but today you’re going to experience another coach in No BS who is
Coach MJ. And let me tell you a little about Coach MJ. She is the
brunette version of me from South Carolina. She is just as sassy, just
as bold, and just as funny. But she also, she has lost weight with No
BS. She knows her shit. And so you are going to be well taken care of
today. What she’s going to do is share some of the tips and special
things that she teaches a lot of our members on the inside. So I want
you to just consider this like a little sneak peek behind the curtain.
So grab a coffee. Get damn comfortable. And I’m going to let Coach MJ
take it from here. Hey, y’all. So today I want to talk to you about what
might be holding you back from getting started with weight loss or
getting to the next 10 pounds or losing that last five pounds into
maintenance. So what happens a lot of times is, you know, you say, I
want it so bad and I would do anything to lose weight. And you would.
And I know that that is true, but there’s always that little thought for
a lot of you in the back of your mind that it’s like, what if this
doesn’t work? What if it’s too hard? What if I have to give up
everything that I love? What if I, you know, have to cut out so many
foods? What if I’m not eating very much? You have all the what ifs in
the back of your mind. And they’re holding you back. And you might even
know that they’re holding you back, but you don’t know what to do about
them. And so today I just want to talk about why they’re there. Because
our brain’s main job is to keep us safe. Like above all else. It is to
keep us safe. It doesn’t want us to emotionally hurt. It doesn’t want us
to physically hurt. Our brains do such an amazing job of keeping us
safe. Like, they are the best at it. And so I know, like, whenever I was
trying to lose weight, I knew where I was was not where I wanted to be.
But I also knew it very well. I knew what it was like to watch everybody
else go ride the roller coaster. And me be the bag holder. I always used
to think when I would think about losing weight, I’m like, who would
hold the bag? Like, I don’t, who would hold all the bags? Like, what
would, what would happen? Like, where do you even put your bags if you
don’t have a bag holder? Because my kids grew up near Carowinds in
Charlotte, North Carolina. And so we used to go all the time. We had
seasons passes. And I’m like, my job was to hold the bags and to watch
out for them. What would happen if, if we got on two separate cars and
one of my kids got off first and I wasn’t just standing there waiting on
them like what if they had to wait on me for a minute and all of those
things were really really scary because I was like if I’m not the bag
holder then who am I I don’t even know who that is and so that little
bit of fear I didn’t want to be a bag holder I wanted to get in the line
with my kids and I wanted to ride the ride but then my brain was like
but what if like who would what if y’all got separated Who would hold
the bag? Where do they even put the bags? If you get up there, like what
even happens in all of those things kept me stuck because I knew what it
was like to stand at the bottom, put my kids in the line and watch them
go off and ride the ride. I wanted desperately to be with them
desperately. I wanted to go with them and I wanted to experience those
things, but I didn’t even know what that was like. And that was scary
because I’d never done it before, but I knew. Even though it was painful
and I wanted something else, I knew what it was like to stand there and
hold the bags and wait on them to come out. So when you’re thinking
about what is holding you back, you’re like, but I want it so bad. You
do want it so bad. So you’ve got to uncover what might be holding you
back. So I just want you to ask yourself, if you lose weight right now,
what in the world would be different in your life? And what does that
even look like? Because a lot of times we get stuck in what we really
want. And I used to say, like, we love familiar. So even though it
sucks, and even though I wanted to get on the ride, it was very familiar
to me to not be able to get on the ride. And on the other side was fear
because I didn’t know what that looked like. So what is holding you back
today from weight loss? Think about it this weekend as you go along
through your weekend. Just think about… What might I be afraid of? What
does it look like? What does my life look like at goal weight? Maybe
you’ve never even thought about it before. And I know we lose one pound
at a time, but it’s how do we get out of fear and how do we move forward
to even let ourselves lose one pound at a time? Okay, ladies, let’s talk
about all the food today. So I’m like a lot of y’all. When I busted up
in an OBS, thinking this you know, blonde headed chick with this accent
was going to help me lose all of my weight. I came busting in with a
trunk load of diet rules. I was an Adkins girl through and through. I
was no carbs, heavy on the protein. That’s what I was doing. I was, that
was always my go-to. Like I would wait until the last minute, right
before an event and needed to drop like 20 pounds and I would jump on it
you know, jump on the Adkins train and lose my weight as quick as I
could, do the event, whatever it was. And then the next day or at the
event, right? Eat all the carbs. And then I would go back up the 20
pounds plus a five extra, right? Like we’ve all, please tell me I’m not
alone in this whole situation. This is what you’re going to notice as
you start to include more of those carbs or more fats, whatever it is.
Listen, I also was Susan powder fat makes fat. Don’t think I wouldn’t.
She told me fat was going to make me fat. And then, you know, Adkins
told me that like carbs would make me fat. Everybody, everything was
going to make me fat. Pretty much. We had to be eating the air. I don’t
know what we were supposed to eat, but anyway. When you start to eat
those things, when you start to include fats, when you start to include
carbs, you’re going to hear your thoughts, y’all. Your thoughts are
going to come. Oh, you can’t eat that and lose weight. Oh, you better
not. You know, you had never been able to eat that and lose weight. I’m
just going to tell you, Corinne one time said on a call or at an event
or somewhere, like the way to teach people they can eat fried chicken
and lose weight is to get them to eat fried chicken. And that’s what
you’re going to have to do. It’s going to be a little uncomfortable,
like to include carbs whenever you’re like carbs are bad or to add some
fats. If you’re like, oh, fat makes fat, Susan Powder, I remember you.
You’ve got to try though. I’m just telling you, give yourself an option.
So here’s some stuff that you can try to make it easy. I don’t know if
y’all remember my Farrah Roche story, but if Farrah Roche was anywhere
near me, that’s the candy with lovely Nutella stuff in the middle and
some hazelnut. crunchy goodness on them, whatever. Amazing candy is my
favorite candy. And when I first started to include some of those
things, if they were in the house, I would eat them. So I had made the
decision not to leave them in my house. I was like, if I want them, I
know where they live. They live at the Publix. They live at the QT. I
know where they live. I can go to their house and pick them up and bring
them back with me. But I don’t, they don’t have to live in my house. So
if you are really concerned about including rice or including something,
you can just go pick up a serving and include it if you want to. That’s
what I had to do with Fair Roche. I just say, try it. Give yourself an
opportunity. If you’re scared to have it in the house, then do whatever
you need to do at first. Make a single serving of it. You know, if
you’re, just get a small potato and just cook one of them, right? You
don’t have to get five baked potatoes if you’re going to try to include
carbs. I’m picking on carbs just because that’s what I was most scared
of whenever I joined No BS was carbs. Like I was scared to death that
heaven forbid I had a potato or some rice or mashed potatoes, anything.
I was scared to death. So buy a small potato and cook it. Just one. Get.
individual rice, you know, they have that like rice that you can just
heat up in individual servings. Start with something like that to make
it easy on yourself to show yourself that you can include those foods
and still lose weight because some of it’s going to tap on, but you
can’t eat that and lose weight. But y’all I’ve said it, Tom, I’m blue in
a face. It was never the rice. It was never the bread. It was never the
pasta. What happened was we told ourselves for so long that we could not
have it. We could not have it. We could not have it. We did not realize
how to speak kindly to ourselves. So we just white knuckled and just
pushed our way through everything, probably talking like a jack wagon to
ourselves in the meantime, until we just couldn’t stand it anymore. And
then we ate all the bread. Then we ate all the pasta. Then we ate all
the potatoes. And then we would go off the rails for three or four days,
then finally decide to be good, step on the scale and be like, see, I
ate bread and it made me gain weight. No, it did not. It was the loaf of
bread you ate, I ate, plus the three or four days of Eat Fest that came
after it. We’ve got to start to recognize what our patterns were. They
don’t have to be our patterns anymore. But when we can recognize them
for what they were in the first place, it was never the bread. It was
never the pasta. We can start to include some of those foods, whether it
be carbs, fats, protein, whatever it is, without getting so freaked out.
So go buy you some single serve things if you want to. Just fix one
serving. See what happens. And then don’t forget, y’all. As always, you
have got a team of expert weight loss and life coaches at your
fingertips who all just like you came in with diet mentality. Who all
just like you had those foods that we were scared to include. And we
have worked through it. So we’ve gone before you. You don’t have to
